So you’ve been thinking about starting a blog? You’re tired of your daily routine. You want something new.
You want to do something more with your life — to contribute or make a difference. You have all of these ideas swirling around in your head. It’d be nice to work from home too — to not even have to get out of bed or get dressed if you don’t want.
It looks so easy. If they can do it, so can you — you know you can. You just need to figure out how to get started.
Blogging isn’t as easy as looks. I’m going to be honest. When I first started, I thought I’d be up in a week or two and already making money.
The truth is, it takes a lot of hard work, patience, and strategy.
The very first step, though, is to know WHY you even want to start a blog in the first place.
Why are you reading this blog post? What brought you here? Why do you Google things like, “how to start a blog” and “how to make money blogging”? Why do you listen to podcasts and watch videos about blogging and entrepreneurship?
What drives you?
What’s your motivation? What keeps you up at night? What keeps you going during the day?
Do you want to make money? Do you want to publish a book? Or travel the world?
You need to figure it out before you get started. It’s important. Because if you don’t know why you want to start a blog, as soon as it gets tough, you’ll quit. And what a waste of time that would be.
Here’s my why:
“I want to grow Launch Your Dream to a $1 million per year company so that I can conquer Crohn’s disease and prove to myself that I can do amazing things despite the hardship that I face. Also so that I can have the freedom to travel the world, spend time with my wife, build a home and family, and motivate people to overcome impossible odds and accomplish their goals.”
It’s pretty simple. You just need to fill in the blank, “I want to start a blog so that ”.
What difference do you hope having a blog will make in your life?
Once you know why you want to start a blog, it’s just a matter of taking action — it’s just a matter of time. You’ll be dedicated. Nothing will slow you down. Every time you meet a new obstacle you’ll be determined to overcome it.
Then, the next step is discovering your niche.
